Long Road for Direct Links across Straits
Nation page 9
Despite encountering numerous setbacks, Jiao Xiaoyan, a descendant of Jiang Kai-shek, has been endeavoring to push through the "Big Three Links", which refers to the direct links of trade, mail and air and shipping services across the Taiwan Strait. Since 2002, he has been shuttling back and forth across the strait to meet Chen Yunlin, chief of Taiwan affairs office at that time, and has spoke to numerous mainland-based Taiwanese businessmen discuss the feasability of direct air and shipping schemes. His efforts finally paid off on December 15 last year, when the mainland finally realized the long-sought big three links.
