After serving out an eighteen-month jail sentence for coaching his mobster client to lie, Li Zhuang, a defense lawyer, was freed on June 11 and flew straight to Beijing.
Li, who works at Beijing firm Kangda, was found guilty of fabricating evidence in his defence of Gong Gangmo, a mob boss in 2009. The trial was controversial and generated criticism for the Chongqing campaign against gangsters.
He was escorted by police to a special boarding channel in Chongqing airport and was also picked up at the Beijing airport. He was accompanied on the flight by his wife and son.
His release has received far less media attention than his three trials.
