China to Announce Economic Data Early in Bid to Avoid Leaks
China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced earlier today on its official website that it would bring forward the announcement of this month's key economic data to Jul 9, two days ahead of the planned Jul 11 announcement. The move is part of a broader effort by the NBS to speed up the release of economic figures by two to three days, which the department says is aimed at satisfying public demand and also reducing the risk of data being leaked ahead of the official announcement.
The NBS also revealed that in the future, much of the monthly, quartetly and economic data that it publishes will be revealed on their official website in the form of an official announcement rather than via a regular press conference as is the case currently.
According to the new timetable announced by the NBS earlier today, Economic figures for the second quarter will be announced on July 13.
