Former Deputy Head of China Mobile Sentenced to Death with 2-Year Reprieve
Zhang Chunjiang, former deputy general manager of China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator by subscribers, was sentenced to death with a two year reprieve (which is often commuted to a life sentence) earlier today by a court in northern Hebei province on charges of taking bribes. The Cangzhou Intermediate People's Court found guilty of accepting 7.46 million yuan in bribes between 1994 and 2009 when he served as deputy director of Liaoning Provincial Postal Administration, general manager of China Netcom Group Corporation Limited, and deputy general manager of China Mobile.
