140 killed in Xinjiang Violence
Violent clashes in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, have left 140 people dead and at least 828 injured, the semi-official China News Service (CNS) reported on Monday.
According to the report, local government representatives revealed the number of people killed and injured as a result of Sunday night's violence at a press conference on July 6.
According to the latest statistics, some 260 motor vehicles, including 190 buses, around 10 taxis and another 50 cars were damaged. In addition 203 shops and 14 civilian homes were destroyed.
Similar violent clashes that erupted in Tibet and Gansu province in March last year, left 18 killed according to official reports.
