A report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has projected that China's per capita GDP would climb to 4000 USD by year-end 2010. The latest projection has way exceeded earlier estimation of 3,000 USD by 2020. The report credited high economic growth rate, declining new birth rate, and the Renminbi appreciation as major contributing factors to the country's fast growing per capita GDP.
