The Hidden Instant Noodle Price Hike
Published:
2010-10-18
Two of mainland China's best-selling brands of instant noodles or 方便面 (fangbianmian) have stealthily raised their prices by reducing the net weight of various products and not adjusting prices. The Hong Kong-listed Master Kong (康師傅) and Taiwanese-based Uni-President (統(tǒng)一) have both recently reduced the size of their standard noodle packaging from approximately 95 grams to 90 grams, but have kept the price unchanged. The move follows a 10% price increase last year that was justified on the grounds that noodle servings had been increased by 5 grams.
