Rumors that producers were planning to raise the prices of basic daily products such as soap, detergent and shower gel sparked panic buying at some Shanghai supermarkets on Friday and Saturday. According to a source close to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, it wasn't until about 1pm on Saturday afternoon that the situation began to calm down and basic items were re-stocked at all of the city's major supermarkets.
