    Cities in Guangdong Seek Permission to Establish Private Banks

    Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Jieyang, three cities in the southern province of Guangdong, have submitted applications with the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) seeking permission to establish private banks. Guangdong province is pushing forward with financial sector reforms following new regulations being announced by the State Council at the start of July.

    Report into Deadly Explosion at Shandong Factory Released

    The deputy mayor of Jinan is one of 32 people who will be held accountable for an explosion at an explosives factory in May that killed 33 people. Yesterday, China's State Administration of Work Safety released a report into the accident which occured at a plant owned by Poly Explosives (Jinan) Co., Ltd. in the city of Zhangqiu. The report said that 11 individuals are facing criminal prosecution, including the general manager and chairman of the company.
