Growing or Contracting: Beijing's Conflicting Housing Stats
Statistics released by the capital's Bureau of Statistics yesterday and data presented on the city's construction committee website devoted to monitoring real estate transactions, give conflicting accounts of the amount of new commercial residential housing sold in Beijing in August. According to the stats bureau, 630,000 square meters of newly-constructed commercial real estate was sold in the capital during August, a drop of 5.1% when compared to the July figures. However, according to data on the Municipal Committee of Construction's real estate transaction website, contracts covering 790,300 square meters of new commercial residential apartment floor space were signed in August, a 22.9% jump on the figures for July. There are also reports that Beijing's bureau of statistics will suspend the publishing of second-hand housing sales data.
