Zhou Wangjun, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission's pricing department, emphasised during a recent interview that the central government's position that "when necessary they would implement short-term price intervention measures" was not the same as saying that they will definitely impose nationwide price controls. He also said that there would be an adequate supply of vegetables over the New Year and the lunar Spring Festival period.
