Mayor of Taiyuan Dismissed for Disturbing Election - Other Officials Warned

Zhang Bingsheng, the mayor of Taiyuan, a city in Shanxi, has been removed from his position for actions he took in an attempt to be nominated as the vice-governor of the province in the lead up to a vote for provincial-level positions in January this year. Zhang's removal was announced by the communist party's Organization Department and the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Committee of the CPC. Both party organizations have also come out and announced that during the upcoming round of party and government elections set to take place at most levels throughout this year, officials who receive or offer bribes or even lobby for position will be removed and punished.
