The Ministry of Science and Technology plans to spend 401.87 billion yuan on overseas trips, the purchase and maintenance of government vehicles and hosting official events, over the coming year according to an announcement published on its website yesterday.
The ministry is the first central government department to release the details of how much it spends on what in Chinese are referred to as the san gong - cars, overseas travel and hosting official events - after the State Council recently announced that all central government departments will be required to make public their spending in these areas.
