The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has permitted Shanxi Province to lift the price of power supplied through the province's electricity grid by 0.026 yuan per kilowatt-hour, making Shanxi the first province to increase power prices. The increased price will not be passed on to end consumer but will be shouldered by the companies that run the province's power grid.According to an industry insider, eleven coal-fired power plants in Shanxi have suffered a combined loss of 9.70 billion yuan over the past three years due to the spread between the price of thermal coal and the price of electricity.
